ESS Member Tour

With this tour, designed specifically for members of the Egyptian Study Society, you have several options. We have done this to provide an outstanding experience for as many ESS members as possible. Prices start at less than $3,000. Note that all prices shown are per person.

With this tour you have several options:
NOTE: In the itinerary below ... pp = per person in a two person room, ss = single supplement
            for a non-shared room, included = included in the price of the tour.

You must include your name and email address in order to send the file to us. We will acknowledge receipt of your form, and get back to you with a complete itinerary, quote and reservation form in a few days.

Accommodation Options - We offer three accommodation options. Please select one.

  Value - A great choice, uses 4-star or better hotels throughout ($3,100 pp, $700 ss).

  Standard - This is the best value, with high-end 4-star and 5-star hotels throughout
    ($3,500 pp, $900 ss).

  None - You supply your own accommodations and meals, including breakfast. Meeting up with
    the group every morning is your responsibility ($2,150 pp).

  Shared room.           Single room.

The boats used and the accommodations on the Nile and Lake Nasser cruises are not affected by the accommodation option selected.
Meal Plans - We offer three meal plans. Available only with Value or Standard accommodations.

  B & B - Our lowest priced option, you will get a full breakfast every morning (included).

  Half Board - You will receive breakfast and one other meal each day. The second meal may be
    either lunch or dinner, depending on the day's itinerary (+$195).

  Full Board - You will receive three meals a day (+$520).

The meals served on the Nile and Lake Nasser cruises are not affected by the meal plan chosen. All meals are included during the cruises.

Luxor Pass - Select the Luxor Pass that works best for you.

  Regular - All open sites in Luxor except the tombs of Seti I and Nefertari (included).

  Premium - All open sites in Luxor including the tombs of Seti I and Nefertari (+$100).



Tour Itinerary - There is enough included in this tour to keep you busy without selecting any of the optional activities. However, the extra cost options can enhance your experience and you might want to consider them. Indicate your choices by checking the appropriate boxes in the following list.

  • Day 1, Jan 19 -
    Fly to Egypt on your own. Upon your arrival in Cairo, we will meet and transfer to our hotel in Giza.

  • Day 2, Jan 20 -
    Morning - Giza Plateau. Includes a walkaround of the Great Pyramid, the Panorama Overlook, and the Valley Temple of Khafra. There are several extra cost options available.
          Inside the Great Pyramid (+$15)
          Solar Boat Museum (+$5)
          Tomb of Meresankh (+$10)
          Camel Ride (+$20)
    Afrernoon - Dashur. We will visit the Red and Bent Pyramids of Senefru before returning to our hotel.
    O/N - Giza

  • Day 3, Jan 21 -
    Morning - Saqqara. Includes the Imhotep Museum, the Step Pyramid complex, inside Unis Pyramid and the tomb of Kagemni. Optional sites include:
          New Kingdom Tombs of Horemheb and Maya (+$10)
          Tomb of the Brothers (+$10)
          Serapeum, burial site of the Apis Bulls (+$10)
    Afternoon - Memphis Outdoor Museum and a stop to see the Pyramids of AbuSir.

  • Day 4, Jan 22 -
    All Day - The Egyptian Museum. Some items have already been moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, but there is still more to see here than can fit into one trip. The Royal Mummies may be located in the Egyptian History Museum at the time of our visit. If so we will go there.

    Evening - Fly to Aswan and transfer to our hotel.

  • Day 5, Jan 23 -
    Morning - We will visit the New Nubia Museum and the Ancient Granite Quarry.
    Afternoon - A bus and boat ride will take us to Egypt's most beautiful temple of Isis on Philae Island.

  • Cruise Options - We offer three different cruise options. Please pick one.

      Lake Nasser Cruise
        (+$700 pp, $500 ss)

  • Day 6, Jan 24 -
    Morning - We will visit Sehel Island and Kitcheners Island, with its botanical garden.
    Afternoon - Fly to Abu Simbel and board your Lake Nasser Cruise Boat.

  • Day 7, Jan 25 -
    Morning - Visit the Temples of Rameses II and Nefertari at Abu Simbel.
    Afternoon - Begin sailing, stopping to visit the temples of Amada and el Derr.

  • Day 8, Jan 26 -
    Most of the day will be spent sailing, with stops at Wadi Saboua and Dakka. You will arrive at Aswan this evening.

  • Day 9, Jan 27 -
    Morning - Visit the Temple of Kalabsha and Beit el-Wali before you disembark.
    Afternoon - Drive to Luxor, stopping at sites along the way as time permits.

    Morning - We will visit Sehel Island and Kitcheners Island, with its botanical garden, before boarding your Nile Cruise Boat, or ...
      Fly to Abu Simbel to visit
        the Temple of Rameses II

    Afternoon - Board a felucca to visit the archaeological site on Elephantine Island and and the West Bank Nobles Tombs.

  • Day 7, Jan 25 -
    Set sail toward Luxor, stopping at Kom Ombo to visit the dual temple of Horus and Sobek, on the way.

  • Day 8, Jan 26 -
    Continue sailing. Visit the Temple of Edfu, the best preserved of the New Kingdom temples. You will arrive at Luxor in the evening.

  • Day 9, Jan 27 -
    After breakfast you will disembark and join the group for a free day in Luxor.

    Morning - Ride a camel to visit St Simeon's Monastery on the West Bank.
    Afternoon - The afternoon is free to enjoy the sights and sounds of Aswan.

  • Day 8, Jan 26 -
    All day - Drive from Aswan to Luxor, stopping to visit Kom Ombo, Edfu and el Kab. Upon arrival in Luxor check into our hotel.

  • Day 9, Jan 27 -
    A free day to get a head start seeing the sites using your Luxor Pass.

  • Day 10, Jan 28 -
    Morning - Cross the NIle to visit the Valley of the Kings. Visit the tombs of Rameses VI and Tutankhamun, along with any other open tombs that time allows.
          Tomb of Seti I (+$60, but included with Premium Pass)
    We will then head to the Western Valley to visit the tomb of Ay. A stop at the Howard Carter House Museum is included. Afternoon - The temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri and the temple of Seti I will complete our day. We will stop for a photo-op at the Colossi of Memnon as we head back to our hotel.
    O/N - Luxor

  • Day 11, Jan 29 -
    Morning - The entire morning will be spent at Karnak Temple with the Hypostyle Hall, the Akh Menu, Open Air Museum, the Temple of Khonsu and the Precinct of Mut all included.
    Afternoon - We will visit the small but beautiful Luxor Museum and Luxor Temple.

    Morning - If you are willing to rise extra early and pay extra you can take a ...
          Hot Air Balloon ride over West Bank Monuments (+$100).
    We will drive to the West bank to continue our exploration including:
    The workers village at Deir el Medina and their tombs located there,
    The Ramesseum, mortuary temple of Rameses II,
    Medinet Habu, mortuary temple of Rameses III,
    The ruins of the Temple of Merenptah and
    The Valley of the Queens, with the touching tombs of the young sons of Rameses III. As an option you can visit the
          Tomb of Nefertari (+$60, but included with Premium Pass)
    O/N - Luxor

  • Day 13, Jan 31 -
    Your last day in Luxor is free. Visit sites not covered in the itinerary or revisit old favorites.

    You are free until your flight to Cairo. Check into our hotel near the airport.

    Transfer to the Airport for your flight. Fly home on your own.

    Morning - Drive to Abydos with a stop to visit Dendara.
    Afternoon - Visit Temple of Seti, Temple of Rameses and Osirion
    O/N - House of Life, Abydos

  • Day 15, Feb 2 -
    All day - Drive to Minia, stopping to visit Tuna el Gebel, Hermopolis and Mallawi along the way
    O/N - Aten Hotel, Minia

  • Day 16, Feb 3 -
    Spend all day at Amarna seeing the central city, Temples, Nobles tombs and the Royal Valley.

  • Day 17, Feb 4 -
    Drive from Cairo, stopping to visit Beni Hasan, Spios Artimedis and the Pyramid at Meidum.

  • Day 18, Feb 5 -
    Transfer to the Airport for your flight. Fly home on your own.
